Students completing their placement with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central and Southern Interior of BC gain valuable, real-world experience that extends far beyond the classroom. Throughout their time with the organization, students build strong communication skills by working directly with staff, clients, and community partners, while also developing time management and organizational abilities as they balance multiple responsibilities. The placement encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and planning, giving students the opportunity to contribute meaningfully in both classroom and group settings. By facilitating programs and collaborating as part of a team, students strengthen their confidence and leadership skills.
As one UBCO practicum student, Melissa Aziz, shared, “I truly valued this learning experience.” These hands-on opportunities not only support professional growth but also prepare students to adapt and succeed in a wide range of future careers.
